Subcutaneous injection

Subcutaneous injections go into the fatty layer just under the skin. They are the most common route for GLP-1 weight-loss medications, peptides, and insulin. The technique is gentle, quick, and easy to learn at home.

1

Wash and gather supplies

Wash hands with soap and water. Lay out your medication, a new syringe or pen needle, an alcohol swab, and a sharps container.

2

Choose and clean the site

Rotate sites weekly — abdomen, outer thigh, or back of the upper arm. Clean a 2-inch area with an alcohol swab and let it air dry.

3

Pinch, insert, and inject

Pinch a fold of skin, insert the needle at 90 degrees, press the plunger slowly, then hold for 5–10 seconds before withdrawing.

4

Dispose and record

Place the used needle in a sharps container. Note the site, dose, and time in your Neuvé dashboard or protocol tracker.

Intramuscular injection

Intramuscular injections deposit medication deep into muscle tissue, where it absorbs steadily over days. This route is common for testosterone replacement therapy and some hormone protocols.

1

Prepare the syringe

Draw the prescribed dose with a new needle. Tap out air bubbles and push the plunger until a tiny droplet appears at the needle tip.

2

Position the muscle

The thigh (vastus lateralis) or hip (ventrogluteal) are common sites. Stand or lie comfortably and relax the muscle to reduce discomfort.

3

Insert at 90 degrees

Stretch the skin taut, insert the needle quickly at a 90-degree angle, aspirate gently if instructed, then inject the medication slowly.

4

Withdraw and recover

Withdraw the needle smoothly, apply light pressure with gauze, dispose of the needle in a sharps container, and rotate sites for future doses.

Member Q&A

Questions members actually ask

Every question here is reviewed before it's published, and answers stay on technique, handling, and logistics. Dosing, symptoms, and anything about your specific protocol goes to your care team instead.

Moderated by the Neuvé team. This is general education, not medical advice, and it doesn't replace your clinician's instructions.

Most members rotate to a new spot every dose and avoid reusing the same area within the same week. Rotating gives tissue time to recover and keeps absorption consistent. Your clinician's instructions always take priority over general guidance.
